Can one of the old timers explain exactly how this was done? I just can't wrap my brain around how it worked.

Find or make a flat(ish) spot on the ice.
Put in a screw as vertical as you can.
Take out the screw.
Pound in the conduit.
Lay the rope around the conduit.

Put in a second conduit ~2 feet above the first.
Tie a loop of 3/4" webbing around the top one and the rope.

Use a screw to back up the system for the first person down.
Rappel carefully, without bouncing.
