Anyone know any details? Stay safe.
There was a fatal accident on Guinness today. There are still at least 8 screws and draws on the third pitch and a rope stashed near the top of the second pitch ( I did not see it). We did not have time to retrieve this gear as we were responding to a second incident at the same time. If anyone is climbing there in the next few days and you feel like returning this gear to the owners, please drop it off at one of the warden offices attention my name. The owners will be appreciative.
Thank you,
Marc Ledwidge Manager, Mountain Safety Programs Banff, Yoho and Kootenay National Parks 220 Hawk Avenue Box 900, Banff, AB T1L 1K2 Ph: 403-762-1401

I was not involved in the accident directly but some of the gear on the route is mine. All I will say about the accident at this time is that he will be dearly missed.
If anyone finds anything, please send me a PM or call me 403-973-0240. And yes, all involved would be VERY appreciative to anyone who returns gear or anything else they find. Thanks in advance.

I have been speaking closely with the second, who, contrary to some media reports, is not his common-law wife, but just a female friend. For some reason this detail was in error in media reports. There are other errors in the media reports pertaining to how far he fell and other details which I will not go into here but instead refer you to check the blog below for updates. One thing I will say is that I don't think we will ever understand exactly what happened that caused the fall. Nor will any amount of understanding make it any less tragic.
Friends have set up a blog to coordinate information about his death and to coordinate a fund to help with transporting his body home to Bulgaria. The second will be posting a comment in the future describing the details of what happened and correcting misinformation that has been distributed by the media. They have posted pictures of Ivo on the blog and if anyone else has pics they would like to share, please send me a PM or email me at jayewilcox-at-gmail-dot-com. Ivo was an active contributor on this board. You would indeed recognize him as "Ivo".
Here is a link to the memorial blog: http://theivominkovmemorialfund.blogspot.com/ Any contribution will be greatly appreciated. His family thanks you in advance.
Be safe out there everyone.

My deep condolences to all involved. I didn't know Ivo personally, but as with all things in climbing some of my people know some of his people. In varying degrees the tragedy is shared by us all.

I would also like to extend my sympathies to his friends and family. My heart fell when I saw the picture - I didn't know his name, only that he was a really nice guy that I had met in passing many times in the gym.
He will be missed.

I was told this morning that the gear has been cleaned off the route by a couple of climbers who were also kind enough to return it all to the wardens. It is currently in transit back to us. I didn't get names of the climbers, but a big Thank-You to those who are responsible.
I find it calms my mind a bit to know the route has been cleaned. Thanks again.
