Some friends and I are heading up your way for the American Thanksgiving holidays (starting Thursday). I know the season may be starting later than usual, but the cold snap has arrived.

Any hints as where to look for moderate multipitch ice (3-4 ish) or a practice areas? We'll probably be based out of Lake Louise.

I've made a couple February trips, but never this early. \:\/

Thanks.

Pretty much read through the posts and replies. The parkway is coming along - Balfour wall may be in? Murchison is. Louise falls and cable gully. Field? they've been getting dumps of snow in that area and it's pretty much an icebox anyways. Haffner will be climable for you. The ghost is always a sweet spot - if flying rent a 4x4 truck - it'll make life easy for that place. If you can change your location base, Canmore would allow you to hit the Ghost and Rundle - Professors - cheers, jd

Try the Gorby Falls area (Icefields Pkwy near Bow Falls). A wide variety of routes (grades 2-4+). Approx. 2 hr approach. Use caution on the snow ledges and protect if in doubt.

Enjoy your visit.

Had a great long weekend in the Rockies.

Climbed 2 O'clock on Thursday, ran into Allen at the start of Finishing Hammer on Friday so we retreated and climb on Weeping Wall, and hiked out to Bow on Sat (but conditions were a bit breezy) so we returned and climbed Finishing Hammer. Good stuff.

Thanks to all the friendly locals for info.
