My partner and I will be coming from Colorado for 10 days of climbing in about week - mainly staying in his truck-mounted camper. Any recommendations for campgrounds with facilities open in the winter or just good places to park a camper? Looking for something around the major ice areas Banff/Canmore, Ice Fields Pkwy/David Thompson, Field, Jasper, etc.

Not sure exactly where we'll focus yet, so any and all advice is welcome. Thanks!

Here some winter camping info for Kananaskis ONLY:

On the Smith-Dorrien/Spray Lakes, Cheap and Rustic: Buller Mountain ($11, drop-in box).

On the HWY 40, Mt Kidd RV Park (403) 591-7700, around $25, I would call and make a reservation since I am not familiar with their winter operations. They have a hot tub!!!

ALL other drive-in/front-country campgrounds are closed for season in the K-Country boundaries. (Well, MacLean Creek is open, but there's no climbing there...) Most of the backcountry campgrounds that are still open aren't in climbing areas. Better off to random camp where allowed anyways (not on a road or in a day-use parking lot unfortunately).

Cheers

I think for official camping Tunnel Mtn in Banff is the only one open all year. I've stayed there for the last 4 years for our annual ice trip. It's $21 a site, a bit more for a camper. full hook-ups. Good bathrooms. Its worth it and I'm cheap. The camping areas have big cover picnic areas with tables and woodstove(you'll need to find wood)and electrity

Its central to many climbing areas and about 1 mile from Banff if you want to be social
